It’s South African Heritage Day this Friday (hello long weekend)… which makes this Heritage Week, right?
Heritage Day is one of our 12 annual public holidays – celebrated on 24 September. On this day, South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people.
In 2005, a media campaign tried to “re-brand” the holiday as National Braai Day “in recognition of the South African culinary tradition of holding informal backyard” braais. Cause the one thing we all love is cooking food and having a kuier around a fire…
So, we’ll be heading over to our local butchery to get some boerewors and a few karoo lam tjops… maybe a stukkie steak.
And you better believe we’ll be making Braaibroodjies!
